Problem-Centered Inquiry
What did you think about the Problem-centered Inquiry model? I liked it, but I found that my upper level students did much better with it than my younger students. It may be just the age, but I think that it is more that they have less experience with problem solving. I think that more experience with this type of problem would help them gain more confidence in the problem solving area.

I think you are right about the experience. The more practice they get in this type of problems solving makes them more aware of how to solve problems. Also collaborating with each other helps them see and hear different ways to think about problems. I like this model because it does that. Hope to hear more from you on Monday.
ReplyDeletePractice makes perfect, or at least broadens their thinking beyond their regular way of problem solving.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that seems to work well in EAST is that often we have students who are 'well versed' in problem-solving activities to help guide the students that need some help with this.. if you choose to use it more, I would bet everytime those students would get a bit better at it - like Lesley said.. practice makes perfect!
